What's New at IAFF F-147
Passing of Charter Member Jack Henry

Local F-147 regrets to announce the passing of Clifford "Jack" Henry. Jack passed on Friday, February 2nd 2018 at his home in Neptune City at the age of 91. Jack was a proud Charter Member of our Local Union and played a pivotal role in organizing Federal Firefighters on Naval Weapons Station Earle in 1969. In addition, Jack was a 25 year member of the Neptune City First Aid Squad and a 70 year life member of the Neptune City Fire Department. Jack will receive a Firefighter's funeral service with military honors.

Wake services will take place on Saturday, February 17th from 12-4 p.m. at the O'Brian Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35 at New Bedford Road in Wall Township. A Funeral Service will be held 1PM at the funeral home, followed by a masonic service and fireman’s service. Military honors will conclude the visitation at 4 PM. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to

February 2018 General Membership Meetings

Our next quarterly membership meetings will take place on Wednesday, February 28th and Thursday, March 1st. Both meetings will take place at The Cabin on Route 33 in Freehold. Both meetings will start at 1700 sharp on the patio (back room behind the fireplace).

Billy Donahue Retirement Luncheon

We will be celebrating Training Officer William Donahue's 33 years of Government service with a luncheon on June 10th at the Mainside Fire Station (Station 94-1). The Luncheon will be from 1300 until 1600. All food and drinks will be provided by Local F-147.

All family, friends and co-workers of Billy's are welcome to attend. Anyone who needs assistance accessing the base should call the Fire Station at (732)866-2260. Anyone with questions regarding the event should contact Mike Holmes at (908)461-5078.

2017-2018 could prove to be damaging period for Federal Employees legislatively speaking. There are threats of damaging legislation, including the elimination of FERS, loss of appeal rights, loss of pay steps and contracting out to name a few. Some of these have already been introduced. Joe Ciccone and Brian Bass Retirement Luncheon

Two of our own are moving on. Brian Bass is retiring in January after 22 years as a federal firefighter and 4 years as an active duty Marine and Joe Ciccone is retiring in December after 23 years as a federal firefighter.

Local F-147 will be hosting a retirement luncheon at the waterfront firehouse (station 94-2) on January 14th, 2017. The luncheon will start at 1:00 pm. All food and drinks will be provided by IAFF Local F-147.

All current, former and retired members and friends and family of the honorees are invited to attend. Please help us give Brian and Joe the proper send off they deserve. Contact Mike Holmes- (908)461-5078 with any questions regarding this event. Congratulations guys!!

After reading the article click on the "Online Voting" tab in the Member Resources section and vote for both new initiatives. Make sure you vote for each one individually.

Michael Mazza Memorial T-Shirts

Battalion Chief Don Mazza (Ret) and family are making and selling t-shirts in honor of thier son Michael who passed tragically in February while attending Mount Ida college in MA.

The money raised will help offset the student loan debt that the Mazza family must now pay. Please print and mail to the completed form to the Mazza family (address is on the form).

2017 Group Calendars and Updated Retirement Paperwork

Group Calendars for 2017 are now available. Click on "2017 Group Calendars" to view and print.

An updated version of the "Request for Retirement Annuity Computation" form is now available in the "Ready to Retire?" section. You must be within 5 years of retirement eligibility to file and may only file 1 request per year.

Congratulations Captain Huhn
Congratulations are in order for Local F-147 member Captain Vic Huhn! Vic was promoted from Captain (Lead Firefighter) to Supervisory Captain. Captain Huhn starts in his new position and station on April 3rd. We wish you the best of luck and thank you for your years of assistance to our Union!
We Remember Michael Mazza
Local F-147 regrets to announce the passing of Michael Mazza, son of retired Battalion Chief Don Mazza. Michael Passed suddenly and tragically at his College on Monday, February 22nd at the age of 20. Michael was a proud 3rd year member of the Mount Ida Football Mustangs. Michael had hoped to become a police officer, among many other things, after graduation. Michael has been a member of our Fire Department family for his entire life. His smile and larger than life presence will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Donnie, Dara, Michelle and the entire Mazza family. 

Wake services will be held on Sunday, February 28th from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Woolley Boglioli Funeral Home which is located at 10 Morrell Street in Long Branch.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 29th at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church located at 408 Prospect Street in Long Branch. The funeral will start at 10:00 a.m.
*All current members are requested to be in Class "A" uniforms and to stage in the Church parking lot by no later than 9:45 a.m

A repast will be held immediately following the funeral at "The Renaissance" (Italian-American Association) located at 1110 Highway 35 in Ocean Township (07712)
Our Deepest Sympathies

IAFF Local F-147 regrets to announce the passing of John Sweeney (brother of active member Beth Sweeney). John passed away on December 23rd from work related injuries. John was living in Cape Canaveral Florida but was born and raised in New Jersey (Union Beach). John was an expirienced Boat Captain and member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 25.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 9th at 0930 at Holy Family Church on Route 36 in Union Beach. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the American Legion Post 271, 775 N. US Hwy 1, Tequesta, FL 33469 or American Legion Post 321, 524 Front Street, Union Beach, NJ 07735.

Passing of Captain Brian Denegar (Ret)

Local F-147 regrets to announce the sudden passing of retired Captain and former Local F-147 President Brian Denegar. Brian passed on December 7th at his home in Eatontown. Brian retired in November 2011 after more than 30 years of service. He will be missed!

A memorial service will take place on December 19th starting at 1100 at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation located at 992 Broadway in West Long Branch NJ.

Once more information becomes available it will be posted here. Please keep the Denegar family in your thoughts and prayers.
